FAQ
What genres do you play?

It seems like there's a new sub-genre of electronic music every week! I mostly play Organic House, Afro House, and Latin House in the 90-120 BPM range. If you're into Dubstep or Psy-Trance, I'm not the girl for the job.

Do you take requests?

The simple answer is no, but there are exceptions. If there is a track you would love to have played at your event, please send it to me one week in advance and I'll see if I can make it fit. If you can send me a mix or playlist you really love, it'll give me a sense of the style you're striving for.*
Can you recommend other DJs?

Of course! If you need multiple DJs who can go back-to-back for your event, I work with some incredible talent. Or if my style is close, but not quite what you want, I'm happy to make other recommendations.

What if there's no electricity?

Off-the-grid events are actually my favorite! The solution is simple — I can bring a generator for an additional fee.

Where are you based?

I split my time between Southern California and Las Vegas. If you're elsewhere, don't be shy about contacting me. I love to travel. Let's see if we can make it work!

Is my event too small?

I love an intimate event! Sure, you can connect your phone to a speaker, but bringing in a live DJ in really sets a mood and frees you to enjoy your event.

What is required to keep the DJ happy?

Thanks for asking! (haha.) It's pretty simple. 1. Don't make requests on the fly — they are often impossible to honor.* 2. Help keep liquids away from the electronics. 3. Prevent people from walking into the DJ booth. 4. Stick to the schedule as much as possible.

Why should I hire Tocaya?

In the case of most of my gigs, someone heard a set at an event and liked it! If that's not your story, maybe you're looking to hire a Latina woman in a male-dominated industry. Perhaps you are looking for electronic music that feels a little more grounded — spiritual, even — than most. Or maybe you picked up on my music's sunny, organic vibe and that's what you're going for.

* I love to make everyone happy, but I only play music I pay for and therefore have the right to play. (Hooray for compensating artists for their work!)
